The Magna Technical Training Centre (MTTC), located in Brampton, offers an apprenticeship program that is unique from any other program in the world. Blending North American and European skilled trade training methods, the MTTC provides students with a broad understanding and skills in various areas of the automotive industry.
Apprentices train 40 hours a week, over a three-year period in a program consisting of in-class instruction, practical assignments and in-plant experience. By the end of their training, participants will have had far more workshop experience than the average technical college graduate. In addition, they have more exposure to current, cutting-edge technology.
For every four days of training at the MTTC, apprentices receive one day of classroom/practical training taught by instructors from accredited local Canadian community colleges.
Apprenticeship training is given in the student's specific trade area and further cross-training is provided in areas such as basic electricity, CAD/CNC, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, robotics and welding. Other automotive-related training is also provided. Apprentices are hired as Magna employees and are paid an hourly wage while being trained. The employment experience gained provides students with excellent job skills and career potential within Magna.
Apprentices that are successful in completing the program can achieve both a Canadian and a German skilled tradesperson's certificate. Past graduates of the MTTC have received very positive feedback in terms of their acquired skills and abilities. In recent years, MTTC apprentices have won numerous medals in Ontario and Canadian Skills Competitions.
