The Next Great Prime Minister is based on a nationwide challenge originated by our Chairman, Frank Stronach, in 1995.
Up until 2004 we asked young Canadians to submit essays outlining their vision for Canada. Presently for the competition, Canadians aged 18-25 submit videotaped speeches stating what they would do if
they were Prime Minister.
The tapes are screened and representatives from Magna, The Dominion Institute, the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs at Carleton University and the producer narrow the competition down to five finalists. The finalists appear on television in a nationally broadcast special and participate in challenges
and debates to determine who will be the winner of The Next Great Prime Minister award. The winner
of the competition receives a $50,000 cash prize and The Dominion-Magna-Kroeger (DMK) Fair Enterprise
and Public Policy Award. The award includes a six-month paid internship split between The Dominion
Institute, Magna and the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs. The four finalists each receive a cash prize and a three-month paid internship also split between the three organizations. For more information about the
competition and its evolution, visit www.thenextgreatprimeminister.ca.
