News Release - Magna Steyr Wins Styrian Integration Award 2011

GRAZ, Austria, November 10, 2011 – Magna Steyr, an operating unit of Magna International, has been chosen for the 2011 Styrian Integration Award, an award given to companies that support the integration of people with disabilities in the workplace. Having received the distinction in 2008, the company is again recognized  for their exemplary commitment and ongoing efforts in this area.

Factors that led to the judge’s decision included Magna Steyr exceeding the legal requirement for employing people with disabilities and its exemplary treatment of persons with a disability during times of crisis.

Notwithstanding the difficult economic conditions, not a single employee with a disability lost employement and virtually no state subsidies were applied for.  Special praise was also given to Magna Steyr for coorindating the monthly meeting of the retention management working group, which brought together representatives of the Federal Welfare Agency, the occupational health unit, the representation of the employees, the Human Resources department plus the spokesman for the disabled with the aim of developing specific measures tailored to the needs of employees with a disability.

On October 18, 2011, Dr. Erich Mayer, Executive Director Human Resources, Magna Steyr, accepted the the 2011 Styrian Integration Award on behalf of Magna Steyr at a ceremony held in the Economic Chamber of Graz.

"Putting our employees first is one of the pillars of our corporate culture,” said Günther Apfalter, president of Magna Steyr.  Making a commitment to providing the best environment to work in is just one of them.  Over the past several years, we  implemented  enhanced work spaces and workflows to better assist people with compromised mobility or those who have a visual or hearing impairment. While this award is a welcome recognition of our efforts, it stands as a reminder for us to always uphold our employee charter principles and strive  to do even better in the future.“

The Styrian Integration Award was introduced in 1999 as a way to recognize Styrian companies that promote the integration of people with disabilities in the workplace.
