AURORA, Ontario, Dec. 14, 2016 — Magna International Inc. announced today that it has received a Continuous Energy Improvement Award from Enbridge Gas Distribution for its natural gas savings, environmental practices and energy-efficiency initiatives.

Enbridge recognized Magna for 16 energy-efficiency projects implemented across seven manufacturing divisions in Canada over the past three years. Magna worked closely with Enbridge to identify opportunities to conserve energy and minimize its impact on the environment. As a result, the projects achieved an annual natural gas savings of 2.75 million cubic meters, the carbon emission equivalent of planting more than 1,600 trees.

“We are honored Enbridge Gas Distribution recognized our commitment to energy efficiency and reducing our environmental impact,” said Mike Sinnaeve, Vice President of Operational Improvement and Quality. “By working with our utility partners such as Enbridge, we can continue to make improvements in environmental sustainability and identify new opportunities to reduce our energy consumption and eliminate waste.”

“Congratulations to Magna in demonstrating a commitment towards being an energy efficient world class manufacturing operation,” said Damir Naden, Energy Efficiency Manager of Enbridge Gas Distribution, Inc. “Collaborative efforts between Enbridge and Magna utilizing processes and technologies to maximize plant efficiencies is commendable.”

Magna has had several additional energy-savings initiatives previously recognized by both utility providers and local governments. Most recently, Magna’s Polycon Industries manufacturing division in Guelph, Ontario, was recognized by the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator for its innovative combined heat and power plant.
