Reinventing Light: Magna Rohinni Automotive
Futurists say we’re on the cusp of a new era in automotive lighting, where headlamps become works of art, self-driving cars flash text and emojis to pedestrians, and car designers weave ambient light throughout a vehicle’s interior.
Magna is sparking the revolution in automotive lighting through a joint venture with Rohinni, an innovative Idaho startup that has come up with ways to create “endless possibilities” with light that go far beyond conventional LEDs or light-emitting diodes.
When paired with Magna’s world-class electronics manufacturing expertise, the combination is expected to produce modern lighting magic.
By using thin-film micro and mini LEDs – as thin as a piece of paper – Magna Rohinni Automotive provides high-performance, flexible lighting that opens up new possibilities for design and product differentiation. The ultra-bright lighting solutions promise to make interior displays better, too, even in bright sunlight.

It’s another example of how Magna is able to “auto qualify” solutions from other businesses, applying them for use in vehicles. Rohinni’s products are designed for various applications, including underwater, in fabric and architecture.
“The joint venture with Rohinni brings thin, flexible lighting technology that mobility has not seen before,” said Magna CTO Swamy Kotagiri.
It’s just another example of how Magna is lighting the way to the future.
