People's feet running a race with pilons lining the route

Magna: Where the Heart Is

I’ve worked for two other major global automotive suppliers, but I always found my way back to Magna because of the culture. Magna has always felt like home, a place where people can grow, collaborate and succeed.

The biggest draw is Magna’s people-centric focus, which spans every group and division. The principles outlined in our Employee’s Charter are more than words on a wall — they guide how we operate every day. These commitments support the idea that every employee is treated with dignity and respect, compensated fairly and valued for their contributions.

"When you’ve experienced how people are treated at other companies, you develop an appreciation of the Magna culture."

At Magna, support and collaboration are part of the culture. Once, when struggling with time management on a challenging new program launch, I asked my boss for help. His spirit-raising reply was, “I wish you’d let me know earlier,” followed by, “We’ll get you whatever support you need.” Within 48 hours, I was collaborating with another program manager, guaranteeing success for both of us.

Later, when I wanted to adjust my career path, a senior leader told me, “I’ll help get you there.” Once you communicate your goals or even leave the company, you are not forgotten. After transitioning to another supplier as part of a business divestment, I got a call in 2018 from a Magna group vice-president who offered me a job as the assistant general manager at a new seating plant in South Carolina. I eagerly accepted.

My career here has spanned a number of roles with increasing responsibilities, from program manager to my current position as the general manager of two U.S. Exteriors facilities, TEAM Systems and AIM Systems. I’ve not only switched roles in my Magna career, I’ve also been able to segue between groups that produce systems and parts across the vehicle.

Corporate culture is often an abstract concept. I’m sharing my unique perspective so others can understand what sets Magna apart. My decades of experience in the automotive industry can help others get a concrete feel for cultural differences that are not just career changing, but life changing. That’s why no matter where I’ve worked, I’ve always felt like a Magna employee at heart.
