Chassis Systems
Better Handling & Durability with Magna
Increasing customer demands for improved vehicle handling and long term durability have led Magna to apply our materials experience to chassis and suspension systems.
Frame Assemblies
Quality Assemblies for Global Customers
As one of the world's premier automotive body and chassis systems suppliers, we provide a comprehensive range of solutions to our global customers. Our commitment to produce the highest quality product is proven by the numerous awards we have earned across the globe.
Frames
Magna has produced full frames for mid-size, full-size and heavy-duty pick-ups and SUVs for over 20 years. Frames are the main supporting structure of the vehicle where all other components are attached. Fully-engineered products utilize a multitude of manufacturing and assembly technologies to produce optimized solutions.
Chassis Subframes
Magna Chassis Solutions
Magna is a market leader in chassis assemblies. We employ a variety of innovative metalforming processes including hydroforming, rollforming, casting, stamping and bending to meet the customers' specific requirements. Unibody engine cradles and subframes are a core Magna product offering, utilizing a variety of materials from aluminum to advanced high strength steels.
Suspension Links & Arms
Magna's experience in chassis systems extends to suspension arms, with full capability to hydroform, stamp, weld, cast, and assemble the complete product.
Magna recently introduced a metal forming process known as TemperStrong™ into structural components. This new family of products allows automakers to use thinner steels while still achieving equivalent or better performance. TemperStrong™ is a lightweight steel solution by Magna that provides affordable mass savings for automakers.
Twist Axle
Whenever turning, breaking, cornering or even riding on a perfect road, you want your rear wheels to stay where they should, without reacting in unpredictable ways.
Of all rear suspension types designed to achieve it, Rear Twist Axles enters as a simple, reliable and affordable solution for front wheel drive cars.
It consists of two trailing arms that hold the wheels attached to the vehicle body, connected by a torsion beam that twists slightly, providing a certain degree of independence to each wheel.
Magna is a leader in rear twist axles research and development, design and manufacturing, providing quality, durability, safety and performance to more than 3.2 million vehicles every year, all over the world.
By developing state of the art engineering solutions, materials and manufacturing techniques, Magna is able to exceed the highest safety, cost and weight requirements.
Structural Assemblies
Lightweight, Corrosion Resistant Solutions
Magna's structural assemblies utilize a combination of materials including an industrial grade carbon fiber with a modified vinyl ester resin system to achieve a 34 percent mass reduction over a stamped steel, 30-40 percent lower tooling investment and is corrosion resistant. This technology showcased on the subframe can be utilized on several Body-in-White and Chassis applications for weight reduction opportunities.
Carbon Fiber Subframe
By replacing 45 steel parts with two molded and four metallic parts, the prototype subframe achieves a dramatic 87 percent reduction in the number of parts. The carbon fiber subframe was the result of an investigation focused on reducing the technical challenges of using carbon fiber-reinforced composites in chassis applications. The subframe is a key part of a vehicle's structure, typically providing a place to attach the engine and wheels while also contributing to rigidity and crash management.
