Magna is an internationally recognized engineering partner for commercial and special vehicle applications, as well as for off-road OEMs and new mobility entrants.

As a full service provider we are using the latest engineering methods and state-of-the-art testing facilities, which facilitates in short development periods. With this testing infrastructure and our broad know-how in the fields of vehicle engineering, propulsion systems, simulation services, and testing & validation, we can cover most of the overall vehicle development scopes in house, making Magna the right engineering partner to meet our customers’ needs.

Our focus is on lightweight design, modularity, and the integration of alternative propulsion solutions, while considering all parts of the vehicle and keeping the big picture in mind.

Vehicle Engineering

With state-of-the-art methods, our engineering team will tackle challenges like mandatory CO2 reduction, autonomous driving, and platform development for efficient production and advanced customer requirements for you.

With our long-term vehicle engineering experience – particularly in the light commercial vehicles (LCV), commercial vehicles (CV) and special vehicles fields – we cover the complete development process, from concept to serial production readiness, including the full validation process.

Our core competences include vehicle design, vehicle integration and system architecture definition, with a special focus on vehicles with electrified powertrains.

Propulsion Engineering

Our propulsion engineering development activities cover a wide range of functional system integration for conventional and alternative systems like BEV and FCEV. In addition we develop thermal and energy management systems, along with software solutions for advanced driving and propulsion functions.

We offer our customers tailor-made solutions including concept development, prototyping, testing and series production, Every necessary safety requirement is being considered and implemented.

The engineering phases are strongly supported by our proven processes and wide range of testing facilities, such as for full-electric drivetrain, high altitude and climate, and engine testbnches on component and system levels, along with Hardware- and Powertrain-in-the-loop equipment.

Software & Simulation

Magna offers modular software solutions for calculation and simulation of vehicles and powertrain development as well as analysis of production influences.

Our software solutions allow our customers to execute development tasks and plan production processes more efficiently and cost-effectively. The durability and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) of vehicle components can be accurately predicted early in the development stage.

Our engineers use our own software products to support our customers’ product development as engineering services.

This group is cross-linked to our testing facilities as well as many other Magna development centers. They contribute to the improvement of a wide range of products through simulation every day.

Testing Services

Magna has a great infrastructure designed to cover the entire development chain, including testing from the complete system level down to the individual component level. Our success lies in our ability to simulate and test according to global standards.

The full range of virtual and real development tests are performed in-house, allowing us to offer high process quality and a wide range of services, including component release.

Our lead testing facility in St. Valentin, Austria is a full-service provider and operates a huge proving ground for functional and endurance testing. It features fully automated engine and powertrain test benches for both conventional and alternative systems, a fatigue laboratory, and a state-of-the-art four-wheel drive (4WD) chassis dynamometer for functional, NVH, and emissions optimizations for complete vehicles.

Tailored Smart Production

With our advanced facilities we at Magna Engineering Center Steyr are able to efficiently produce high-quality traditional powertrain systems (eg. Transfer case, axle drive, beam axles). Additionally, we specialize in alternative propulsion systems (eDrive products for various vehicle systems architectures) and auxiliary products (eg. Electrohydraulic power steering pump).

From the initial planning to the final tests, we provide end-to-end support to ensure a successful and efficient production operation, aligning with MAFACT principles. Additionally, we prioritize End-of-Line testing and in-line checks for superior quality control. Possible test scenarios include hot tests for combustion engines, NVH tests and eDrive functional dynamic and static tests.
